Beautiful Bargains: Grab These 5 Craftsman Bungalows Priced Below $300K

Craftsman bungalows might be immensely popular in the United States, but the architectural style originated outside the country.

The small-ish dwellings with charming front porches were patterned after housing in colonial India—”bungalow” comes from a 17th century Hindi word.

Once the Arts and Crafts movement appeared in the U.S, adding statement woodwork and handcrafted interior and exterior details (along with the word “Craftsman” to the description), the homes began to pop up all over the country.

But the five we found for you this week are so appealing, because they’ve all been restored both inside and out and still cost less than $300,000. And most of them are more than 100 years old, although they don’t look it.

These five homes are beautiful and affordable. Take a look.

1. 355 E 6th St, Jacksonville, FL

Price: $295,000
Cottage charm: This darling little bungalow is move-in ready. With its warm wood floors, updated plumbing and electrical, and stylish paint job, you’d never know it was built in 1924.

The 1,036-square-foot home has two bedrooms and one full bath, plus a cute living room with a bay window and original fireplace. Outdoors, there’s a fully fenced yard and an inviting front porch with a swing.

This quaint bungalow is conveniently just a few blocks from Main Street restaurants, breweries, and shops. For this reason and many others, it makes a good short-or long-term rental—or a cozy little family home.

2. 413 N Center St, Grove City, PA

Price: $295,000
Remarkably roomy: It’s not easy to find such a spacious place at this price. This five-bedroom, 1.5-bath Craftsman even has a sizable backyard and a separate garage with storage space.

The interior has been meticulously updated with lots of loving care given to original features such as signature woodwork, built-ins, hardwood floors, and an abundance of windows. The front porch looks like an open-air living room.

The kitchen has a fresh, new vibe but meshes nicely with the home’s historic qualities. It features stainless steel appliances, white cabinetry, and some butcher-block countertops. Colorful and crafty: This charming, three-bedroom Craftsman bungalow is more than a century old, but it certainly doesn’t show its age. The hardwood floors gleam, the walls and woodwork are colorfully painted, and the bathroom has been completely redone.

The updated abode’s recently remodeled kitchen is truly arresting. The cabinets appear to be purple in the listing photos. These owners have flair!

4. 718 N Main St, Tuscumbia, AL

Price: $249,950
Sweet space: This 2,465-square-foot home, built in 1910, could technically be considered a four-story residence, with its attic, basement, and two stories in between. Granted, it needs a little work on the top and bottom levels, but the potential is there.

The floor plan includes has three bedrooms, two full baths, and two living rooms with 10-foot ceilings. And there’s a bonus room upstairs, plus front- and back-porch areas that extend the living space even further.
