Vice President Kamala Harris bid “aloha” to Washington, DC, in the wake of the 2024 presidential election—and retreated to a stunning $7 million estate in Hawaii, where she reportedly spent six days holed up with her husband, Doug Emhoff, after suffering a resounding loss to President-elect Donald Trump.

According to reports, Harris, 60, and Emhoff, 60, rented a stunning home in Kamuela to the tune of $1,300 per night, leaving DC on Nov. 19 and returning on Nov. 25.

The property where the vice president and the second gentleman are understood to have been staying is located in the incredibly luxurious resort of Mauna Kea. The resort is home to a large hotel and a number of private residences, many of which can be rented out at staggering cost.

“Our private residences within Mauna Kea Resort provide a luxurious and secluded vacation experience,” the Mauna Kea website explains. “We offer a range of accommodations, from oceanfront studios to four-bedroom condominiums and private estates.”

The home that Harris and Emhoff are understood to have enjoyed during their Hawaiian getaway is located in the “exclusive neighborhood” of Fairways South and offers spectacular views of the surrounding areas and the ocean.

A report by DailyMail.com claims that the couple chose a beautiful five-bedroom, five-bath home that was last purchased for $5 million in 2006. It is now worth around $7.1 million, according to Realtor.com® estimates.

The home—which is booked through Nov. 27, according to its rental website—boasts a hot tub, private pool, and ocean views. It can sleep up to 10 people.

Property records indicate that the vacation home is owned by a trust linked to Napa Valley wine baron Michael Mondavi. The vacation home has been available to rent for several years now.

Recent images of the home show it has undergone extensive renovations since 2006, including an impressive interior overhaul that saw almost every retro element replaced with a more modern option.

“This oceanview estate has been crafted with impeccable design and finishings, and is a true island masterpiece offering a great room with sliding glass pocket doors for indoor/outdoor Hawaiian living and pitched ceilings clad with skylights and rich hardwoods,” the rental listing states.

“An epicurean kitchen [is] outfitted with Viking professional-series appliances, slab granite countertops and an eat-in island for four. A magnificent dining room for eight [is] complimented by a breakfast niche for four.

“Additional features include: five guest suites, each with a flatscreen TV and attached, luxurious bathroom (primary and secondary have ocean views, a king size bed and relaxing sitting area), a laundry room, air conditioning and ceiling fans, plus a one-car garage brimming with water toys, folding chairs, a cooler and utility wagon—everything needed for a perfect beach day.”

As well as enjoying the many amenities that the property has to offer, guests who stay in the home are also given access to the Mauna Kea Beach Hotel, as well as the Westin Hapuna Beach Resort, enabling them to take advantage of all of the many features each location boasts.

These include private golf courses, white-sand beaches, oceanside tennis courts, multiple swimming pools, and a spa.

However, according to DailyMail.com, Harris and Emhoff spent almost the entirety of their vacation holed up in their rental home. The duo “rarely” ventured out, despite traveling to Hawaii with a full Secret Service detail, the outlet reported.

Politico suggests that the vice president used the vacation as an opportunity to plan her next political moves, with the publication claiming that Harris has instructed her team to keep her options open.

Those options reportedly include a 2028 run at the White House, as well as a 2026 bid for governor of California, her home state.

“She doesn’t have to decide if she wants to run for something again in the next six months,” a former Harris aide told the outlet. “The natural thing to do would be to set up some type of entity that would give her the opportunity to travel and give speeches and preserve her political relationships.”

Harris is also understood to be in the process of figuring out where she will base herself from January, when Trump is inaugurated and begins his four-year term in the White House.

She and Emhoff own a property in Los Angeles, where they may choose to relocate after they leave the official vice president’s residence at the start of 2025.
