Jude Law Reveals Shocking Truth About Quaint Cottage in ‘The Holiday’: ‘Just Burst the Bubble!’

“The Holiday” star Jude Law has revealed a surprising truth about the quaint cottage that featured prominently in his Christmas movie hit—admitting that the picturesque property doesn’t actually exist.
Law, 51, starred alongside Cameron Diaz, Jack Black, and Kate Winslet in the beloved 2006 holiday flick, playing the role of a handsome widower who falls in love with an American woman visiting the UK for the festive season.
The woman in question, played by Diaz, does a house swap with Winslet’s character, who lives in a charming Surrey dwelling nestled in the heart of the British countryside.
“The Holiday” quickly became a cult Christmas classic after its release; and the home featured in it, “Rosehill Cottage,” earned a legion of fans, with decor experts fawning over the beautiful and seemingly historic property.
Entire articles were dedicated to the home, from advice pieces on how to achieve the same aesthetic in your own home to stories about similar properties that are available to buy.

But now Law has revealed that the exterior of the cutesy home in which his character’s love interest was staying was actually built for the film, while its interiors were all shot on a set in Los Angeles.
The actor shared the revelation during a recent appearance on BBC Radio 2, after host Zoe Ball questioned whether “Rosehill Cottage” was available to rent on Airbnb.
“That cottage doesn’t exist,” Law then confessed, noting that the property had been constructed especially for the movie when director Nancy Meyers failed to find an existing abode that fit her vision for the home.
“So the director—she’s a bit of a perfectionist—toured that whole area and didn’t quite find the chocolate box cottage she was looking for,” Law continued. “So she just hired a field and drew it and had someone build it.”
The British actor then revealed that, while the outside structure of the home was based in Surrey, the interior was constructed thousands of miles away on a set in L.A.
“Here’s the funny thing if you watch it,” he explained. “We were shooting in the winter here [in the UK], and every time I go in that door, we cut and we shot the interiors in L.A. about three months later.”

After Ball voiced her horror over the news, Law joked: “Just burst the bubble, sorry.”
However, while the official “Rosehill Cottage” does not actually exist, a charming three-bedroom property that served as the inspiration for the on-screen abode was available for rent on Airbnb for around six months, from December 2022 until the summer of 2023.
That home, which is in Holmbury Saint Mary, was scouted by producers working on “The Holiday” and was used as a loose design foundation for the home that Winslet’s character ended up living in.
Meanwhile, the enormous Mediterranean-style mansion that Diaz’s character owned in the movie was a real property, located in San Marino, CA.
The seven-bedroom, 6.5-bathroom dwelling was last sold for $9.5 million back in 2019, having become a huge tourist attraction for devoted fans of the movie, eager to catch a glimpse of the real-life property that was featured in it.
Designed by architect Wallace Neff in 1928 as his own personal residence, the dwelling was described in its original listing as a “landmark masterpiece” and features a pool, spa, paddle court, and a rose garden.
Located on a 0.77-acre plot, the home is currently worth around $13 million, according to Realtor.com® estimates.
