The Jacobsen Residence in LA

It’s not often that a private but historical home, perched in the middle of Los Angeles, lands on the market. But that’s exactly what just happened.

The Jacobson Residence at 4520 Dundee Drive, in the highly desirable Los Feliz hills, is available for $6,849,000.

“The home is smack-dab in the middle of everything, with views of everything from downtown L.A. to LAX,” says co-listing agent, Juan Longfellow. “The home is on a private road and feels completely removed from L.A., but the gorgeous village of Los Feliz is just steps away, and Griffith Park is right there, too.”

The Jacobson Residence, designed by legendary architect Edward Fickett and completed in 1966, was designated Historic Cultural Monument 674 by the City of Los Angeles in 2000. It is, notably, the only Fickett-designed home in Los Feliz.

All of Fickett’s trademark touches are on display here—custom light fixtures, walnut paneling, a built-in bar and storage, beamed ceilings, brick accents, clerestory windows, and an indoor atrium brimming with plants, trees, and an abundance of natural light that brightens large swaths of the home.

The indoor and outdoor spaces flow into each other. Stone pathways lead around the .29-acre lot, peppered with agave and native California plants, wraparound decks and large windows that offer those sweeping views of L.A.

The two-level, three-bedroom, 4.5-bath home features a private entertainment pavilion, open-concept living spaces with fireplaces, an office, upgraded kitchen, and discreet solar panels offering green power.

Upgraded but with a historical feel

“The kitchen has been upgraded to include all of the modern conveniences people expect, while preserving the original architectural and design character,” says Longfellow. “The Sub-Zero fridge is disguised, and the gorgeous Wedgewood oven and cooktop was completely restored.”

The Jacobson Residence also includes a separate guesthouse—a flexible space for creatives or buyers with live-in staff or family members. There is also a two-car garage with space for two additional cars outside.

The home’s sparkling, turquoise pool is a private and relaxing spot for entertaining.

“This home is so unique,” Longfellow says. “It really is the perfect place for a creative person who wants a historic, impeccably preserved home with access to L.A.—but complete privacy.”

Longfellow is co-listing the property with  Louise Leach, of Longfellow & Leach in L.A.
