Nicole Kidman Admits To Making Major Holiday Decor Faux Pas at Her Home: ‘I Apologized to All My Neighbors’

“Babygirl” star Nicole Kidman‘s latest role is causing quite the stir among viewers—but it turns out the actress is also courting controversy away from the screens by committing a very controversial holiday decor faux pas: putting up her Christmas lights before Thanksgiving.
During an appearance on “The Late Show with Stephen Colbert” to promote her steamy thriller “Babygirl,” which centers around a married executive’s illicit affair with a young employee, Kidman, 57, confessed to her divisive holiday habit, before attempting to defend her decision to embrace the festive season in early November.
When asked by host Stephen Colbert if she’s a big “Christmas person” who “enjoys decorating and that kind of stuff,” she quickly answered “Yes!” Then she admitted that her love of the holidays has motivated her to break an unwritten rule that many consider a big decor no-no.
Kidman, who is reported to own a massive property portfolio in both the U.S. and Australia with her husband, Keith Urban, admitted that the lights go up long before the holiday season.
“I’m the person who has the lights up very, very early. We put the lights up at the beginning of November,” she confessed.
“Really?” Colbert asked, surprised. “You don’t do Thanksgiving at all?”

Kidman insisted that despite her desire to deck the halls so early in the year, she does get into the turkey-focused holiday, too.
“We do a huge Thanksgiving,” she explained. “I just like to have the lights up!”
The actress conceded that not everyone in her local community might be as keen on ringing in the festive season before November has come to a close, confessing that she has actually “apologized to all the neighbors” for her over-the-top decor habits.
A fascinated Colbert then asked how long the lights stay up after the festive season, jokingly suggesting Valentine’s Day as the cutoff.
Kidman retorted that she would prefer an entire season of lighting cheer, noting that she is currently figuring out a time frame that suits all involved.
“We’re negotiating now, calling them ‘winter lights,'” she said.
But the “Big Little Lies” actress didn’t stop there, making clear that her flair for the dramatic doesn’t cease with her on-screen roles. Quite the opposite, in fact.
“I want to start a whole movement,” she said, “that allows ‘winter lights’ to stay up … a ‘light up your lights’ movement.”
Lucky for the Oscar winner, she and her husband, country music star Keith Urban, have multiple houses to cover completely with holiday trimmings.
The Australian and American couple have quite a dizzying array of impressive properties, both in the U.S. and abroad.

Tennessee compound
In 2018, the two sold their longtime country estate in Franklin, TN, for $2.7 million.
They looked to have picked up the parcel 10 years before, reportedly making two transactions in 2007 that totaled $2.45 million for the home, guest cottage, and 36 acres of surrounding land.
Nashville mansion
In 2008, the couple reportedly picked up a mansion in Nashville for $3.47 million, which they dubbed the “Queen of Northumberland.” The 10,925-square-foot mansion comes with seven bedrooms, eight full bathrooms, a home theater, and a hobby room. Out back, there’s a tennis court and a huge swimming pool.
Beverly Hills estate
That same year, the couple picked up a sweet setup in Beverly Hills, CA, reportedly dropping $4.7 million for a 3,977-square-foot home with five bedrooms and 4.5 bathrooms. The Los Angeles Times noted that the 1965-era build is located in a “gated community that’s home to other celebrities.”
Farm in Australia
The A-list pair, who wed in 2006 and have citizenship in both Australia and the U.S., also own property Down Under. According to Architectural Digest, the pair picked up a massive 110-acre farm called Bunya Hill in Sutton Forest, New South Wales, paying somewhere between $4 million and $6.5 million.
The place includes a rustic Georgian mansion built in 1878 with a pool room, library, and guest cottage. In a video with Vogue that showcased the home, fenced fields with cattle can be spotted.
It’s a wonder that Kidman has any time to decorate for the festive season, given that she seems to be on every screen and channel these days, from binge-worthy shows such as “Nine Perfect Strangers,” “Lioness,” and “The Perfect Couple” to must-see movies such as “The Northman.”
Meanwhile, Urban, a singer and songwriter, is certainly no slouch. He has released 11 studio albums and won a Grammy Award.
When the two aren’t working, they’re able to enjoy their serene surroundings. In a 2018 interview with Harper’s Bazaar, the star revealed, “Obviously I work hard, but when I’m off, I’m off.
“Keith and I are very good at immediately clicking off because we have a really good life in Nashville that’s very simple, quiet, and nourishing because we’ve made it like that.”
